A highly impressive and decorative early 19th century English trumeau mirror, executed in the refined Louis XVI taste and of exceptional architectural scale. This elegant antique mirror offers both a strong classical presence and a gentle country house character.
The frame is finished in an early, muted sage-green painted surface, now gently timeworn and softly layered, lending depth and authenticity to the piece. Finely modelled applied giltwood ornament, including classical rosettes, scrolling swags, and neoclassical mounts, provides a refined contrast with the muted painted background. The upper frieze panel is centered with a restrained decorative motif beneath a crisply moulded cornice, reinforcing the mirror's architectural quality
To the reverse, the mirror displays original wide pine backboards and traditional nailed construction, demonstrating honest workshop craftmanship typical of the late Georgian to early Regency period. Historic mounting adaptations and age-related wear are visible, supporting the mirror’s genuine period origins.
The mirror retains its original high-quality bevelled glass plate, notable for its generous hand-ground bevel and beautifully soft period reflection. Two light historic scratches are present, consistent with age and use, and do not detract from its decorative impact.
This is a wonderfully versatile and impactful interior piece — ideal for placement above a chimney piece, within a grand hallway, drawing room, boutique or hospitality setting. Its scale, patina, and understated elegance make it particularly suited to layered decorative schemes, pared-back modern environments, or English country house interiors.
A rare opportunity to acquire a large-scale antique mirror of refined Louis XVI inspiration, combining decorative presence with authentic early 19th-century craftsmanship
