An Important Heavily Carved Oak 'Antiquarian' Marriage Buffet, dating back to the 1800s
The fine-quality antique sideboard features a raised gallery with the inscription 'Richardus-Verney-Margaret 1598'.
The marriage buffet is profusely carved throughout, with elaborate carvings of Ye Kentishmen Surprising William of Normandy in Swancomb Woods, with a stunning Armorial Crest with Dragons guarding either Side, with the inscription of 'Virtue Vaunceth' (Virtue Prevails).
The base of the top shelf features the stunning Armorial Arms of Sir Richard Verney and Margaret Greville, together with a Portrait of Sir Richard. There is also an elaborately carved Apron with Arms 'Virtue Vaunceth' and 'Vix. EA. Nostra Voco', also Monogrammed RMV.
The Base Section has a large Centre Cupboard which is also heavily carved with a Portrait of a King and a Sword, inscribing 'William Ye Norman', and 'Long Live Our Gracious Quene 1598',
The hand-carved antique oak sideboard has beautiful Barley Twist Base Supports, and similar antiques to this can be found at Charlecote and Hardwick Hall.
