Beautiful Old Rustic Antique Large Iron Bound Merchant Hardwood Trunk with hidden a compartment. Circa 1800's

The chest is very heavy and is made from dense hardwood, it has a great deal of thick, blacksmith-made iron banding/straps with iron studs both for strength and protection as chests like these were made for merchants to transport their goods and valuables across the world trade routes. Chests from the 1800's needed to be durable to stand up to the long and difficult journeys by sea and land. This particular chest has wheels that helps with mobility, heavy carrying handles, and a hasp lock on the front. The lid opens on iron strap hinges, to reveal a very capacious open storage area with a section to one end that was to store precious items.

This is a beautiful old antique chest with a stunning aged patina and grain to the hardwood that would make a fantastic coffee table/statement piece that is sure to spark your friends and family’s imaginations as they wonder about the stories this could tell of its adventures around the East.
