Here we have a magnificent and outstanding fine quality English Walnut wardrobe by Gillows of Lancaster, dating back to the Victorian period, circa 1880.
This grand wardrobe is of superior quality and is a testament to Gillows, boasting original antique beveled mirror doors that flank each side, which open to reveal ample storage space, ideal for long coats and dresses, with the original interior brass hooks still intact.
To the centre of the wardrobe, there are beautifully carved, decorative, fielded paneled doors, with dentil cornice mouldings above, crowning this magnificent wardrobe. The panelled doors open to reveal a bank of shelves with five generously sized dovetailed drawers below.
The impressive wardrobe has been well-maintained and cared for over the years, and still retains its original key for the top base compartment, which is a rarity.
There is a makers mark - L, followed by a reference number then, "Gillows Lancaster" is to the upper drawer box.
This splendid wardrobe features beautiful golden caramel tones and a bountiful grain interest.
For easy transportation/maneuverability, it comes in five parts.
Condition: Excellent condition - structurally sound and solid
The wardrobe compartment on the right-hand side has an upholstery interline over the wood, which is now discolored but can be removed if needed. See the last picture.
This wardrobe is of the highest quality and is made to last; however, there may be minor signs of wear and tear.
