Lamb of Manchester -Prestigious & Fine Quality Victorian Burr Walnut & Granite Top Cabinet
Dimensions: Height - 134 cm x depth 46 cm x width 150 cm
Provenance: Stamped Lamb of Manchester
Date: 1880
A highly impressive and prestigious large-scale High Victorian two-door cabinet, crafted in beautifully figured burr walnut and retaining its original polished granite top. This exceptional architectural piece is by Lamb of Manchester cabinet makers, reflecting the confident design and superb craftsmanship associated with quality Northern English furniture of the mid-to-late 19th century.
The cabinet displays striking burr walnut veneers throughout, with warm golden tones and lively natural figuring. Beneath sits a crisply carved frieze with geometric moulding flanked by fluted pilasters, with gilt highlights terminating in stylised fan motifs - a subtle nod to the Aesthetic Movement influence seen in English furniture of the late 19th Century.
The original granite top provides both practical durability and refined visual contrast, elevating the cabinet beyond purely decorative furniture into a statement interior piece.
The Fine cabinet is fitted with twin large glazed doors opening to reveal generous, adjustable shelving, ideal for books, decorative objects, or refined storage. The deep plinth base adds visual weight and stability, while the warm tone and rich figuring of the walnut provide exceptional commanding presence, allowing it to anchor a room beautifully — particularly effective in period interiors, loft conversions, or modern minimalist settings seeking character.

Condition
Presented in very good antique condition overall, with a rich colour and beautifully figured burr walnut veneers throughout. The cabinet has been well cared for and remains structurally sound.
There is some very minor, localised lifting and historic loss to small areas of burr veneer along the lower plinth, consistent with age and use. This is purely cosmetic, does not detract from the overall appearance, and is typical of fine veneered furniture of this period.
The granite top is in good order with only light signs of use. The glazing is intact, and the interior shelves are clean and practical for everyday use, with only the odd, minor, faded ring mark. Overall, the piece displays extremely well and is ready for placement.
